Anupam Kher and Shabana Azmi both support the contentious picture The History of Kerala
The city of Mumbai, located in India, has recently been in the news. Renowned Indian actors Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher have voiced their endorsement for the recently launched film titled The Kerala Story, despite its contentious and perceived anti-Muslim plot. The actors utilized social media as a platform to express their viewpoints. Azmi, for instance, conveyed her stance via Twitter, asserting that individuals who advocate for the prohibition of the film are equally erroneous as those who sought to ban Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha.
The Kerala Story narrates the account of a cohort of women hailing from the Indian province of Kerala who were coerced into embracing Islam and enlisting in the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The promotional materials of the film portray the female characters as experiencing positive emotions while attired in shalwar kameez, and negative emotions while donning abayas.
Azmi’s social media post was made one day subsequent to the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association’s declaration to discontinue exhibiting the film within the region due to demonstrations and insufficient attendance. The film in question has been criticized by the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, who has expressed concern that it may contribute to the promotion of communal polarization and the dissemination of hate propaganda against the state.
